On Saturday, February 12,
the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers will sponsor the 17th
Annual MATHCOUNTS competition. This nationwide math competition begins
with local chapter events for 7th and 8th graders.
Over 500 local area
students, with a passion for math and the challenge of competition,
will meet at the Fern Valley Road Holiday Inn at 9:00 A.M. Winners on
the local level will advance to the state competition on March 18 and,
hopefully, to the national competition in Washington, D.C. on May 12.
Awards include trophies, medals and scholarships. Competition subjects
include: algebra; probability; statistics; and geometry.
