OHIO RIVER
SWEEP SET FOR JUNE 16
The 12th annual
Ohio River Sweep is set for Saturday, June 16, from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00
P.M. More than 15,000 volunteers from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois
will pick up trash and debris along 1,800 miles of riverbank. Six
states and 72 counties are represented.
ORSANCO (The
Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission) is the regional
coordinator for the event. The Metropolitan Sewer District is the
local coordinator, with sponsorship assistance from Operation
Brightside, Jefferson County Public Works, the Louisville Water
Company, the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Recruiting
volunteers will officially begin at a news conference on Wednesday,
May 30. The news conference will be held at 10:00 A.M. in Eva Bandman
Park. Local dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Steve Henry,
Mayor David Armstrong and a representative of County Judge Executive
Rebecca Jackson, will take part in the kick-off effort.
