MSD NAMES FIVE 2002 DIVERSEWORKS CHAMPIONS

LOUISVILLE (July 24, 2002) — Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District has selected four Kentucky businesses and an MSD employee as DiverseWorks Champions for 2002.

The awards were presented at the July 22 MSD Board meeting to:

  • Advanced Ready Mix Concrete, Inc., Louisville, Camilla Fizer, president
  • Judy Construction Co., Cynthiana, Larry Judy, president
  • René Patterson, MSD DiverseWorks Program specialist
  • Quest Engineers, Inc., Lexington, Charlie Scroggin, president
  • T.E.M. Electric Co., Lexington, Tom Masterson, president

MSD’s DiverseWorks Champion Awards recognize (left to right) Tom Masterson, Camilla Fizer, Larry Judy, René Patterson and Charlie Scroggin for making diversity work for their businesses.

MSD's DiverseWorks Program certifies businesses as owned by women and minorities, and helps them connect with contract opportunities at MSD and with other companies. The awards presented today are the first annual awards given by MSD to recognize certified businesses, MSD's prime contractors and major business partners, and an MSD employee who have demonstrated success in diversity initiatives.

Each quarter, MSD honors individual employees who excel in promoting opportunities for minority- and woman-owned businesses.

MSD established its DiverseWorks program in 1985 to certify businesses as owned by minorities and woman, and to seek opportunities for certified businesses to work with MSD and other companies. Each year MSD aims to award 15 percent of its construction and professional contracts to minority-owned businesses and three percent to woman-owned businesses.
