FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 18, 2002

Approximately 2 inches of rain has fallen on the Louisville Metropolitan area since Friday evening.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting between 1 to 3 inches of rain for the local area between Monday and Tuesday nights. Another period of rain could move in on Wednesday.

Conditions are conducive to flash flooding. The ground is completely saturated. All rainfall will become fast run-off, filling steams and creeks and possibly flooding low-lying areas.

MSD Operations, Engineering and Maintenance personnel will remain on alert during this period to ensure local sewers and drainage systems move the maximum amount of water possible.

The public should be advised to avoid walking or driving into flooded roadways, basements or other areas.
