Progress Report Now Available for Louisville and Jefferson County Floodplain Management Plan

A Progress Report is now available at a location near you. The 2001 report outlines a variety of continuing activities and projects implemented by the City of Louisville, Jefferson County, MSD, and other agencies to coordinate floodplain management and to reduce flood losses within our community.

The Louisville/Jefferson County Floodplain Management Plan is a comprehensive plan identifying Louisville and Jefferson County's floodplain inventory and challenges by watershed. Along with the hazard inventory maps, other maps show areas in the community at risk for flooding, locations of sirens and critical facilities, and mitigation projects. Chronicled in the plan is our community's history of flooding, a summary of the Advisory Committee partnership, and a description of current programs being implemented to mitigate chronic flood losses.

Adopted by the city and county in February 2000, the Louisville/Jefferson County Floodplain Management Plan outlines an Action Plan for the next five years. The comprehensive plan is available for review at any of the sites listed below, except at the government center.

Developed by an Advisory Committee, the 2001 Progress Report reviews what has been completed in our community to accomplish goals set in the Action Plan. Current projects range from placing flood gauges in viaducts, to making recommendations for the Floodplain Ordinance, to mapping our community's open space. The report outlines the status of existing projects, describes actions taken by various agencies and organizations to reduce flood losses, and identifies the need for further action.
