On
Monday March 10, 2003 the Louisville and Jefferson County
Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) Board awarded a contract to GRW
Aerial Surveys, Inc., of Louisville and Lexington, to acquire
color aerial photography of Jefferson and Oldham Counties in
Kentucky. This is a fairly routine project for MSD as aerial
photography of the area used for the LOJIC Geographic Information
System (GIS) mapping has been acquired every two to three years
since 1986. Under this contract, GRW will also generate seamless
high-resolution color digital imagery from the aerial photography.
The new imagery will be available to local government users and
the public through our community’s LOJIC GIS. The new imagery will
be a valuable resource for Louisville Metro government, Louisville
Water Company, Property Valuation Administrator, MSD, private
businesses, and the general public.
Immediately
prior to capturing the aerial photography, surveyors under
contract with MSD will be marking certain ground locations to be
visible in aerial photography of Jefferson and Oldham Counties.
The markings may be either white panel fabric (on open ground) or
paint (on pavement). Accurate ground coordinates and elevations
will be measured at each marked location for use in tying the
aerial photography to actual locations on the earth. The markings
are temporary and will be removed after the aerial photography is
completed, hopefully no later than mid-April.
