The Beargrass Creek Watershed Clean Sweep is set for Saturday, September 27, from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Collection sites for volunteers include:

  • Cox’s Park
  • Beargrass Creek Park (Bowling Boulevard, behind Mall St. Matthews)
  • Office Depot (Breckenridge Lane)
  • Stonybrook Target (Taylorsville Road)
  • St. Pius/Seneca High School
  • Butchertown Greenway (Story Ave and Brownsboro Road)

  • Cherokee Park Entrance (Lexington Road)
  • Big Rock at Cherokee Park

  • Schuff Lane Bridge (Newburg Road)

Volunteers can register at one of the collection sites at a check-in station on Sweep Day. Each volunteer will be provided with plastic garbage bags and gloves. Commemorative tee shirts will be handed out to the first 150 volunteers.

Volunteers are especially needed at St. Pius Elementary School on Goldsmith Lane and at Seneca High School where they will be planting container trees and shrubs along the banks of the South Fork of the creek. Please bring a shovel to the site if you would like to help plant trees and shrubs.

Following the Sweep, lunch will be provided to all the volunteers at Cox’s Park at 1 P.M.

The Metropolitan Sewer District is the local coordinator of the event. Local sponsorship assistance includes the Jefferson County Catholic and Public Schools, Metro Parks, Kentucky Waterways Alliance and Waste Management.

If you have any questions, please call MSD’s coordinator Phyllis Croce at 540-6456 or the Louisville Nature Center at 458-1328.
