Re: 2003 Progress Report Now Available For Louisville Metro Floodplain Management Plan

The 2003 Floodplain Management Plan’s Progress Report is now available for review at the locations listed below.

The Louisville Metro Floodplain Management Plan is a comprehensive plan identifying Louisville and Jefferson County’s floodplain inventory, and challenges, by watershed. Chronicled in the plan is the Community’s history of flooding, a summary of the Advisory Committee partnerships, and a description of current programs being implemented to mitigate flood losses. View 2003 Progress Report (, 95 K).

Adopted by the Old City of Louisville and Jefferson Fiscal Court in February 2000, the Louisville Metro Floodplain Management Plan outlines a Five-Year Action Plan for mitigation to reduce flood losses.

The 2003 Progress Report reviews what has been completed in our Community to accomplish goals set in the Five-Year Action Plan. An Advisory Committee developed the Action Plan and continues to meet quarterly, to keep projects on track. The annual Progress Report allows the Community and the stakeholders to review the status of projects and implementation. Current projects range from placing flood gauges in viaducts, to making recommendations for the Floodplain Ordinance, to developing a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program in pilot neighborhoods. The 2003 Progress Report also outlines a variety of continuing activities and projects implemented by the Louisville Metro, MSD, Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and other agencies to coordinate floodplain management and to reduce flood losses within our Community.
