FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 5, 2004

The Ohio River is rising and is projected to reach a crest of 24 feet on the Upper Gauge, on Wednesday, January 7. This is one foot above flood stage. The river is currently at 20 feet, about 8 feet above normal pool.

At 24 feet, the river will top sections of River Road near Cox Park and the Fourth Street Wharf.

MSD has placed flood pumping stations in service at:

  • Buchanon Street
  • Fourth Street
  • Western
  • Upper Mill Creek
  • Lower Mill Creek

Additional flood pumping stations may be placed in service depending on adjusted river crests.

No street closures have been ordered at this time. MSD will make a decision on Tuesday regarding the necessity to place closures at:

  • Tenth and Main Streets
  • 27th Street at McAlpine Locks

MSD will continue to monitor weather forecasts and river elevations. Additional information will be forthcoming as conditions change.
