FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 17, 2004

The Ohio River is projected to rise to 19.8 feet, on the Upper Gauge on Tuesday afternoon. This is about seven feet above the normal pool level of 12.5 feet. This is due to significant amounts of rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan that have fallen over the watershed upstream of Metro Louisville. The projected rise is still three feet below flood stage at Louisville (23 feet).

Over the weekend, MSD will place only the following flood pumping stations in service:

  • Buchanan Street (Butchertown)
  • Western (West Louisville)

With these projected levels, no street closures will be needed, and only minor inconveniences are expected. Low lying areas like the Great Lawn and Cox’s Park will have water on them, and caution should be used along the river’s edge. No roads will be closed.
