Beargrass Creek Clean Sweep, March 11, 2006

On Saturday, March 11 at 9:00 A.M. through noon and again at 1:00 P.M. through 4:00 P.M., MSD is partnering with Living Lands and Waters, and the Partnership for a Greener City to host a volunteer cleanup along Beargrass Creek at the Louisville Rowing Club. This is an opportunity for volunteers to help clean up the Ohio River. Volunteers will meet at Louisville Rowing Club located off River Road behind Stop Lite Liquor. CLEANUP WILL TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE. A brief discussion on safety rules and potential hazards during the cleanup will be given and then volunteers load up into Living Lands and Waters work boats and head out to the pre-designated garbage sites along the shorelines and islands of the river. Life vests, gloves, bags will be provided to the volunteers, along with snacks and beverages after the cleanup. Dress suitably for the weather rain or shine and the riverbank trash collecting activity.

You can sign up on the Living Lands and Waters website at http://www.livinglandsandwaters.org and learn more about their organization and events that are happening while they are in Louisville. The MSD contact is Phyllis Croce (540-6456).

Living Lands & Waters will be hosting a month-long cleanup of the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky in March. Living Lands and Waters is also joining up with the Partnership for a Green City, the University of Louisville, MSD, and other local groups to host an Alternative Spring Break the week of March 13-19. This is an opportunity for students and faculty to help clean up the Ohio River.
