Catch basins and street
gutter drains carry stormwater away from our homes and streets
when it rains. If grates become covered with leaves, twigs,
grass clippings and other debris, catch basins and drains cannot
function property. Covered or clogged grates and drains
contribute to street and yard flooding.
You can help protect your
neighborhood by keeping catch basin grates and street gutter
drains clear. During dry weather, simply rake or sweep up any
debris and put it in the trash. Don’t try to clear a grate when
water is standing; wait until the weather is dry.
Also dispose of leaves and other
yard waste properly. Discarding leaves and grass clippings in a
stream or ditch can block them restricting the flow of
stormwater during rains.
Homeowners looking for ways to
dispose of fallen leaves can drop them off at two Metro
Louisville Public Works yards. The service will be available
through Friday, Dec. 12. This is loose-leaf collection only –
residents must empty bags at dropoff sites and dispose of the
bags elsewhere.
Two drop-off sites will operate
Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
- East District Public Works
Yard, 595 Hubbards Lane
- West District Public Works
Yard, 617 Outer Loop
The sites will be closed on
Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving and on Sundays.
Leaves will continue to be
collected in the Urban Services District as part of regularly
scheduled yard waste pick up.
For questions about leaf dropoff
or leaf collection, residents may call MetroCall 311 or log on
to the city’s website at LouisvilleKy.gov.
