MSD obtains EMS certification from National Biosolids
Partnership
MSD has been
marketing organic fertilizer under the brand name, Louisville
Green, since 2005. Currently, 82 tons of the fertilizer is
produced daily and sold to customers in eleven states.
Louisville Green,
made from wastewater solids, or biosolids, has been rated as a
Class A fertilizer, safe for all soil applications by the United
States Environmental Protection Agency.
Louisville Green’s
high quality has been proven by its place in the market. MSD
sells 100 percent of the product it produces and saves local
ratepayers over $500,000 each year in landfill fees.
MSD has recently
received verification of its quality assurance and safety
standards by the National Biosolids Partnership through its
Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS auditing process
uses an independent, third-party audit firm that verifies MSD’s
biosolids production process as safe and dependable for its
customers and the environment. MSD will formally celebrate this
national recognition on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM
at the Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 4522
Algonquin Parkway. Tours of the production facility will be
provided.
