Supplier Diversity Honors

Since MSD's diversity program began in 1985, ten organizations have honored MSD's work with minorities and women with more than 30 awards. Recent honors include these.

Ferda C. Porter Advocate Award — Presented in 2000 to retired Executive Director Gordon Garner by the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council, this award recognizes outstanding civic leadership for individual contributions to minority business development in the Louisville community.

Small Business Advocate of the Year 2001 — Awarded by the U.S. Small Business Administration to Deborah J. Mettling for her significant contributions as an advocate on behalf of minority businesses.

Million Dollar Award — Presented annually to MSD from 1988 through 2002 by the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council recognizing that MSD spends more than $1 million each year with certified minority businesses.

Corporate Excellence — Awarded by the Business and Professional Women of River City in 1986 and 1996 honoring MSD's commitment to equal opportunity for women.

National Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Exemplary Practices Award — Presented in 1991 by the American Society for Public Administration

Corporate Leadership — Presented in 1990, 1995 and 1998 and 2001 by the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council, this award for excellence recognizes MSD's continued dedication to ensuring that minority-business participation is a key part of MSD's procurement process.

Kentuckiana Utilities Industry Purchaser of the Year — Awarded in 1995 by the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council because MSD reported the largest minority business procurement expenditures for the previous calendar year.

Diversity Exemplary Practices Award — Presented in 1997 by the American Public Works Association recognizing MSD's outstanding contributions to workplace diversity.

Impact Award — Presented in 1998 by the Kentuckiana Minority Supplier Development Council in recognition of Supplier Diversity Program Administrator Deborah J. Mettling's outstanding achievement in minority business development practices.

National Corporate Partner of the Year — Presented in 2000 to MSD by the National Association of Woman Business Owners in recognition of MSD's local support of woman-owned businesses and the Louisville chapter of the NAWBO.
