Project
XL: Pretreatment Reinvention
MSD partnered with local industries, environmental organizations, and enthusiastic residents on multiple projects to improve the quality of Chenoweth Run during a five year pilot project (June 2002 - May 2007). MSDs Industrial Pretreatment Program and the Chenoweth Run creek were the focus of this innovative study. The Study was endorsed by USEPA and KEPPC and was one of only five pilot projects in the US involving industrial pretreatment programs. This project allowed MSD to focus resources on a few industries with the potential to discharge pollutants of concern in to the Chenoweth Run stream. And MSD was able to reward industries that did not have the potential to discharge the pollutants of concern by eliminating regulatory oversight. This project resulted in local industries coming together to sponsor watershed-based environmental projects with money they saved. For more information, see a Project Overview and the Final Project Report. |
