Community Rating System
(CRS) Program
MSD is responsible for enforcing the
Louisville Metro Floodplain
Management Ordinance
( ,
1.4M) and
for administrating the Floodplain Management Program, which includes the
flood protection system, Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Flood Insurance Studies,
drainage system maintenance as well other stormwater related tasks. The
Mitigation Division at
FEMA is the organization responsible
for working with communities to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or
exceed the minimum floodplain management requirements of the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program developed by FEMA
to encourage communities to improve stormwater and floodplain management.
Louisville Metro participates in this CRS program and has achieved a Class 6
Rating, which awards residents of the community with a 20% discount on flood
