Community Rating System (CRS) Program

MSD is responsible for enforcing the Louisville Metro Floodplain Management Ordinance (, 1.4Mand for administrating the Floodplain Management Program, which includes the flood protection system, Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Flood Insurance Studies, drainage system maintenance as well other stormwater related tasks. The Mitigation Division at FEMA is the organization responsible for working with communities to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or exceed the minimum floodplain management requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program developed by FEMA to encourage communities to improve stormwater and floodplain management. Louisville Metro participates in this CRS program and has achieved a Class 6 Rating, which awards residents of the community with a 20% discount on flood insurance premiums.
