Environmental Management System The Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) is participating in the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP’s) Biosolids Environmental Management System (EMS) program, which was created to advance environmentally sound and accepted biosolids management practices. MSD is developing an environmental management system (EMS) to continually improve the environmental performance of its biosolids management activities and demonstrate this performance to stakeholders. The NBP EMS is a management framework for integrating environmental considerations into day-to-day operations and decision-making and for improving organizational performance over time. MSD’s EMS is based on the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP) framework of seventeen (17) EMS Elements. MSD’s EMS supports continual improvement in key areas that will help MSD demonstrate its commitment to operational excellence and environmental protection.
